International Women’s Day is a day we celebrate women globally. It’s the one day of year that recognizes what women individually bring to their community, workplace and collectively to the world. Observed since the early 1900s and now recognised each year on March 8, it remembers the incredible struggles of women who have paved the way for others.
One of the biggest hurdles working women have to overcome is making time for their family verses their work. At TEC, we realize the importance of family time and encourage our new mums to take time off and spend it with their family.
The current UAE law, allows new moms 45 days of full paid maternity leave. This is the equivalent of approximately six weeks away from work with your new born baby. Many women complain this is not enough time and feel they are left with no option but to resign from their job so they can spend more time with their new baby.
We want the women in our office to not have to choose between being a mother and having a career. This International Women’s day, TEC extends maternity leave for new mums to allow them to have up to seven months out of the office to spend time with their new baby.
It’s important to note that we haven’t forgotten the dads of the team either. The UAE labour law currently offers 3 days leave for new fathers. We will be extending this to two weeks.
TEC wants to take a step back and appreciate the women, that make up the majority of the team, as mothers, as entrepreneurs, as community leaders and as young women of vision. Happy International Woman’s Day!
