TEC at Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort

After an extremely busy few months of events, the TEC team decided to get a change of scene and do some offsite training at Le Meridien, Al Aqah Beach Resort.

This Starwood resort is accessible by helicopter, sea plane or car as it’s just a 1.5 hour drive from Dubai Airport, with parking space for 250 cars. The resort is set against the spectacular Hajar Mountains and nestled within lush gardens on a stretch of private beach.

We checked in on a Wednesday afternoon, and while the hotel seemed busy for this time of the year, we were attended to fairly quickly.

All 218 guest rooms at Al Aqah come with a stunning panoramic view of the Indian Ocean and the mountains, regardless of which level you’re on. My colleague and I shared an extremely spacious 48sqm standard room, with a huge balcony. While we enjoyed the comfortable room with all the standard hotel amenities, one feature my colleague and I really appreciated were the speakers in the bathroom that allowed us to listen to music even in the shower.

Our evening started with a cocktail/mocktail bartending class at the Beach Bar, organised by the hotel, where their team taught us some of their bartending tricks.


Once we’d enjoyed our self-created drinks, we went on to a delicious team dinner at Gonu Bar & Grill. The dishes were mainly seafood, but the chef was very accommodating to members of our team who had allergies or special requests, and offered alternatives for them to choose from. Gonu is just one of several restaurants at the resort, and it provided a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere for our team dinner.

After a good night’s sleep, we enjoyed an international breakfast at Views restaurant, which of course, has an amazing view for guests to enjoy while they dine. Some of the more energetic team members woke up early enough to take advantage of the beach facilities, including beach volleyball, as well as the large swimming pool.

The hotel has 42 Standard Rooms, 130 Superior Rooms, 35 Royal Club Rooms, 10 Executive Suites, and 1 Presidential Suite (if you really want to treat yourself), making it an ideal location even for larger corporate groups.

If you think this resort is only suitable for leisure travellers, think again. They have a well-equipped business centre and a secretarial service to ensure all your business meetings and corporate events are handled with care. They even have a team dedicated to teambuilding activities for groups of any size.

Le Meridien Al Aqah also has several meeting rooms (we used the 9.7m x 9m Dibba Room for an internal meeting), and two large pillarless ballrooms, with a maximum capacity of 240-600 guests.

If you want to take your corporate event outdoors, Al Aqah’s large Hajar Lawn offers an ideal location for up to 1,000 guests.

There’s a lot more at Al Aqah which we were not able to fully take advantage of (the spa, water sports, fitness centre etc), but at least this means we have more to look forward to at our next trip!
